Vera Bradley Must Die!!

if i see one more of these plush pouches around some thick wristed little woman i will croak. what is the deal with the vera bradley obsession? it's centralized in the south, i do believe. i have never seen a VB bag on the arm of a new yorker or brit. never will, i am sure. they aren't expensive enough to be a status symbol. they were the staple wardrobe accoutrement of every evangelical christian conservative eddie bauer polo shirt wearing girl in my highschool. oh, the days i do not miss of my past. i saw one yesterday in a client's home and cringed, retracted away from the satchel so as not to even let on that i recognize it's existence. if you are not familiar with the VB it is paisley printed, cotton fabric, lightly padded like a quilt and comes in an array of colors. they exude an air of conservatism. of voting for bush. and refraining from sex till your bound in marriage. ugh. they sell them at our local davis kidd bookstore. and women buy them. by the tons. i, for one, will never join da club.

So funny...I live in San Francisco and traveled home to Jax, Florida twice in the past four months with lay-overs in Dallas both times. The first trip was in December, and when I touched down in Dallas, I thought "Hmmmmm...why are some of these young girls wearing granny knitting bags...as shoulder bags?" They were/are definitely NOT the norm in SF, and I promptly forgot about them once I got home. During my second trip (two weeks ago), the bags...and their rip-offs...were EVERYWHERE...Dallas, Jax, the flight home to SF...EVERYwhere...including the airport gift shops. It was a paisley explosion!

I hope these disappear quickly...just Fugly. Thankfully, I don't see them that often in the city, but I can commiserate with those of you that are bombarded on a daily basis. Just try not to look directly at the bags (I have a theory that there may be some sort of evil-paisley hypnosis going on). This to shall pass, like the crocs before them. ;)

I work in a high school in a middle to upper class suburb of Chicago. Quite a few of the high school girls carry Vera Bradley bags in lieu of a backpack. They're obviously not old and I wouldn't consider any of them to be conservative, evangelical Christians. Relax! Fads come and go. As you get older you'll have far bigger problems so, on second thought, maybe you should enjoy this one while you can.

I am certainly "not" an idiot, nor a collector of Vera Bradley; BUT my daughters love them! We aren't quite the Vera buyers you described; though--we do live in the South on a golf course, my daughters do attend a private prep school; however, we are not "overt" Christians nor did we vote for Bush...
I have to admit that I like some of the Vera Bradley patterns.
You have to realize; though, Vera has been around for years--and its not just a fad around the South. :)

Well I am from the South and I did vote for Bush and I am an Evangelical Christian AND I LOVE VERA BRADLEY! It isn't just a FAD in the south. These bags have been around since I was in college in the 80's! And if they make me appear to be a conservative wait til I get married to have sex, THEN THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I WANT IT TO DO. Say what you want about the South, but BLESS YOUR HEART that you don't live here.
